it's been a while since we woke up super early for an esate sale, but i'm so glad that we did this morning! up at 5am and waiting outside by 7am for a 9:30am sale isn't easy, but someones got to do it, right?!?! it's a lot of fun going through the houses and sorting through tons of items picking out the ones you may enjoy. the beautiful bright sunny day sure helped keep us happy and motivated. we were the first ones on site so that meant we had to start 'the list' well, at least we were # 1 & 2 to get inside.... however for the first time there wasn't a massive list and she just let us all go in together anyway. oh well!
we started off in east meadows and found an absolutely stunning heywood wakefield set. a two seater sofa with one arm, one seater with no arm, and one seater with the arm, and a beautiful square dual level end table. that means there are LOTS of possibilities with how you can arrange them! (so you can get the idea of what i'm talking about - this website sold one almost exactly like it with different cushions - http://furnishmevintage.com/livingroom/mid-century-modern-heywood-wakefield-2-piece-sectional/ ) also with it we snagged another surfboard coffee table, two rad bar stools (also heywood wakefield) AND an absolutely gorgeous lounge chair. the lounge chair needs a complete makeover, but man-oh-man when it's done it's going to be a beauty!
sean had a really long day at work the day before and wasn't home until around midnight... so with the 2.5 hours we sat there waiting to go in he got to take a little cat nap. i scoured the photos again to make a 'plan of attack' and try to figure out where the items we were could be.
and here is the big score! heywood wakefield for all of the pieces...the upholstery needs a lot of cleaning or to be re-done... i love the pattern, but maybe we'll update to a classy solid. wish we had a better photo... but we'll post the office' before' picturesmonday.
here's our HW surfboard table, fancy HW lounge sofa (that looks like a chair that should be in the garbage at the moment) and the HW bar stools. i was just going to get us a cargo van, but i'm very thankful that we opted for a small truck instead - little did we know what was ahead!
i also snagged a little fur shawl (BEAUTIFUL & perfect for weddings!) and two lovely 100% silk headscarves.
we decided to go to a second sale about 15 minutes away... there were a few items i saw avail online but figured that they would have been sold out long before we arrived. it turns out that estate sale traffic was extremely low today and it was meant to be ours... lucky us (and you!)
we found two interesting sofas (only one has a base and so essentially both need to be 're-done'), a rad little telephone table (PERFECT FOR GUEST BOOKS!), some dishes, a beautiful gold detail/glass shaker/decanter with matching little glasses, a reddish samsonite suitcase, and a super long formica top dining table with 8 chairs. ALL SOLID pieces.
sean got to use all of his experience as a truck PA today to make sure everything was packed away securely for the long trip home. tie those knots well!!
sean with his tape measure and knife. it all somehow miraculously fit! (well, we had fit the end table + an armed dining chair into our car) but it all made its way to brooklyn!
now the question is: where in the hell do we store it all?!?!
thanks to all the ladies (and gentleman) for your help. what a great day!
